The Real Reusable: Buoy Comes to Mammoth Lakes

Thanks to Mammoth Disposal, the Mammoth Lakes Restaurant Association, and eight pilot restaurants, Mammoth Lakes has launched a new initiative to replace single-use to-go containers with reusable alternatives. Meet Buoy.

How Buoy Works

Download and sign up on the Buoy App. The app generates a QR code that is unique to your profile. Be sure to save it! Use the map feature on the Buoy app to find all participating restaurants. When you’re ready to order or want to pack up leftovers, tell the server you want a Buoy container and use your QR code to “check out” the containers.

After enjoying a satisfying meal, drop off your containers at a Buoy drop-off bin, located at each participating restaurant. You can also request a home pick-up for $4. Return the containers within a 10-day period for free. If you love the containers and want to keep them, you will be charged a $8 fee per container.

Through our partnership with Buoy, our goal is to reduce waste in the Mammoth Lakes community. Because Buoy uses plastic intercepted from rivers and coastal regions, these products help keep our waterways and oceans clean.
