A cool swim on a warm summer day is always enjoyable! Plan a hike with a refreshing reward at the end. Take a dip in Horseshoe Lake, or hike to lakes in the upper Mammoth Lakes Basin and swim there.

The relatively short hikes to McLeod and Crystal Lakes are ideally suited to this purpose. You could also join intrepid triathletes training at June Lake beach, or kick back and soak up some sunshine along the wide sandy shore. Locally, only Whitmore Pool is staffed with professional lifeguards. To unwind after a seriously strenuous adventure, discover a geothermally heated hot spring for a reviving, warm soak.

Swimming In Drive-accessible Lakes In Mammoth Lakes

Horseshoe Lake in the Mammoth Lakes Basin is a great place for taking a dip in a drive-accessible lake. It’s a great option for families, with a beach to spread and launch kayaks or paddleboards. No motorized boats are allowed in Horseshoe Lake, which makes the area especially safe for swimming.

Whitmore Pool

Located off Benton Crossing (Green Church) Road about a mile from U.S. Highway 395 Whitmore Pool offers a 360-degree view of the Eastern Sierra as well as a six-lane 25-meter pool, children’s wading pool, restrooms, hot showers, lawn area, BBQ and vending machines. There is a nominal fee per person. The pool is open to the public from early May (lap swim only until mid-June) through late August. The Pool at Snowcreek Athletic Club
